The crimes in the countryside are falling in Rio Grande do Sul. Data from the sector was exposed in the “Debate Security in the Countryside”, which occurred on this Monday afternoon (11th), in the Production Auditorium, from Expodireto Cotrijal. The advances were achieved through the creation of the Police Stations Specialized in the Prosecution of Rural Crimes and Cattle Rustling (in Portuguese: Decrab).

According to the vice-governor and the state secretary of Public Safety, Ranolfo Vieira Júnior, today the State counts with Decrabs in Santiago, Cruz Alta and Bagé. And the quantity will increase. “We are studying the creation of a unit in Uruguaiana. There was one Decrab already created in Camaquã, but it was not installed yet”, comments the vice-governor.

The Decrabs started from discussions in the Parliamentary Fronts of Combat to the Agricultural and Livestock Crimes (FPCCA), initiated in August of 2017. The police stations are different for doing an integrated work among Civil Police, Military Brigade, Sanitary Surveillance, Rural Unions, among other departments.

The Decrabs started in April of 2018 and, according to the president of the FPCCA, the state deputy Sérgio Turra, the results are meaningful. “In the last ten months there was a reduction of 30% in the crimes of the countryside. Comparing only the months of January 2018 and 2019, the reduction was of 43%”, explains Turra.

Impact in the environment

The superintendent of Agricultural and Livestock Production of Cotrijal, Gelson Lima, participated of the seminar and alerted about the risks of using products which are smuggled, stolen or pirated. “There is a high insecurity for the producers and a high environmental risk”, indicates Lima.

The manager of Brazil Security of Syngenta, Daniel Nascimento, reinforced the information given by Lima, highlighting the gravity of the situation. “The problem is on the discard of packages of illegal products. The person who acquires them is not worried with the correct destination”, says Nascimento.

According to the data from the National Syndicate of Products Industry for the Plants Defense (Sindiveg), the environmental incorrect destination of the illegal packages of pesticides is the equivalent, in one year, of 19 thousand of tons of CO2, 37 thousand oil barrels, 81 trees cut and five months of garbage generation of a city with 500 thousand inhabitants.
