The 15^th State Forum of Dairy was one of the attractions on this Wednesday, March 13^th, in the 20^th Expodireto Cotrijal. The central auditorium of the park was crowded to listen to three lectures with different approaches, but all aimed to instigate the dairy producer. “The Expodireto Cotrijal looks for positive activities for many chains of animal production. The State Forum of Dairy will accomplish again today this role”, promised the manager of Animal Production of Cotrijal, Renne Granato. He was right.

To the economist Glauco Carvalho, from the Embrapa Dairy Cattle, some data of production and productivity, especially in the South Region of Brasil, are contradicting the negative scenery presented by news concerning the sector of dairy. “Brazil looks good in the photograph. The nightmare is the rent, which is not so different in other countries”, he said.

Analyzing the competitiveness of the Brazilian producer, Carvalho highlighted that Brazil is on the fourth or fifth position in the production for many years, but in the last decade have passed in front of Germany and Russia, climbing to the third position. It is below the United States and India. The Brazilian production jumped from 7 billion of liters to 34 billion of liters in 2016, increasing 374%. In the world, the evolution in the same period was of 71%.

Carvalho also highlighted that in the period from 2000 to 2017, Brazil had an increase of 69.4% in the production, only staying behind New Zealand, with 75%. Some good news for the South of the country, is that the region participated with 35.7% in this increase. The problems in Brazil, in his point of view, are the low processing capacity in the fabrics, the fragmentation (big number of companies) and the infrastructure. In this case, the roads and accesses to the properties are bad.

Besides, in Brazil the truck has a capacity in average of 14 liters (in some cases, 9 liters). In New Zealand, the trucks have a capacity of above 25 thousand liters. “Even so, you deserve congratulations. In the Top 100 of productivity, 79 are from towns in the South Region, of those 51 in Rio Grande do Sul”, he highlighted.

DRINK MORE MILK – The veterinary Ana Paula Menegatti, one of the creators of the magazine Full-cream Milk and founder of the movement #drinkmoremilk, presented the actions which she realizes with other colleagues and with support of companies and specialists in health and in defense of dairy. “Always when we identify any negative fact or news concerning the product, we try to generate positive actions, which have been producing good results”, she said, showing, for example, the partnership with personalities such as the doctor Drauzio Varella.

New profile of consumer

The researcher Paulo do Carmo Martins, general chief of Embrapa Dairy Cattle, presented the industrial and cultural revolutions which have been happening to show that “the new consumer has changed the production logic”. He mentioned the “pushed offer” (carbon, alternative protein, food waste, residues and recycling, and the animal well-being). He also highlighted the “pulled demand”, on which the concern of the consumer involves topics such as full traceability, fair trading, cares with the community and with the farmer.

“Today, instead of global chains, we have short chains. The region which goes from Rio Grande do Sul to Cascavel is dictating the pattern in dairy production, but it can be better”, he said. In his opinion, there is the necessity of creating an ecosystem of innovation for the sector of dairy and dairy products, involving agronomists, veterinaries, zootechnicians, engineers, physicists, mathematicians, producers, dairy technicians, carriers, investors and enterprisers.

THE FORUM – The 15^th State Forum of Dairy was promoted by Cotrijal and CCGL, with the support of Sindilat, Adriana Seeds and Senar/RS. Authorities who participated of the opening were the president and vice-president of Cotrijal, Nei Manica and Enio Schroeder; the secretary of the State Agriculture, Covatti Filho; the president of CCGL, Caio Vianna; and the president of the System Ocergs-Sescoop/RS, Vergilio Perius; among others.
